There are many misconceptions about coaching, and these days we can find a coach for just about anything. There are many reasons why you might choose to be a Player, but in the end, what matters is that the person you hire to be your Coach is using a Coach Approach. The single most important thing about the Coach Approach is an intense focus on RESULTS. Contrary to popular belief, a coach is not a consultant or a counselor and real coaching is not an intervention for people or businesses with problems. Coaching is for Players who want to be great and play for bigger results.
Here are five signs that it’s time for you to join a coach’s team:
1. You have a Dream and are ready to play for bigger RESULTS
Everyone has a dream. A Player who wants to be great is willing to take massive action towards creating their dream. If you aren’t living your big picture vision of your life (yet) and you are ready to take action, then you have some growing to do. Every time we play bigger, we step out of our comfort zone. Stepping out of our comfort zone is uncomfortable! A Coach will help you anticipate, practice, understand and transcend your personal growth aches and pains. We all have growing pains, otherwise known as resistance. It’s part of the human condition! It’s how we handle our growing pain that makes the difference.
2. You want to become masterful in the pursuit of your Dream
All top athletes have a coach. Once they reach a plateau or become successful, they may hire another coach to help them grow further, but it is rare to hear of a top-performing athlete who goes it alone. An elite athlete will have a team of professionals who support them – coaches, trainers, chiropractors, massage therapists and other specialists in the growth and development of their sport and the care and preservation of their body. Just like an athletic coach, a personal or business coach will help you define, master, PRACTICE and sustain the skills you need to keep on your winning path in pursuit of your Dream.
3. You are tired of “powering through” and want to learn how to “go with the flow”.
Constantly powering through to-do lists takes a ton of energy and we have all been there. For many high-achievers, powering through has become a a way of life and a means to success. The tricky thing is, powering through tasks is not sustainable over the long term. We are all busy. We all have competing priorities and things to do. We all have resistance, whether it be our own inner resistance or the resistance of others in our environment. When we are constantly powering through resistance, we become tired, drained of energy and vulnerable to stress. Powering through has had its time and has served its purpose, but sustainability is where it’s at. The role of your Coach is to help you understand your resistance and help you play through. In the game of golf, the team that “plays through” ends up ahead of the other, slower teams. I like the sound of that, don’t you?
4. Life is an Energy Management Game and you want to WIN!
Many people who have a Big Picture Session with me begin our conversation saying they need to be better at time management. They are constantly struggling with their relationship with time and their dream. We all vote for what is important to us by how we use our time! A great coach will help you design your environment to support and pull you forward, instead of holding your back.
5. You want to bring the spirit of play to your own team!
It’s time to shift how you’ve been leading. You have been successful managing things and people your way up until now. In order to take your game to the next level, you need to be able to take your team with you. As my coach says, “People hate to be managed, but they love to be coached.” It’s time to get some insight on how to bring the spirit of play to your business so that you can take yourself, your team and your players to the next level.
