Everyone Loves a New Beginning

Everyone loves a new beginning.

Each spring we emerge from our winter hibernation. But this year we shelter in place to preserve life. Our separate togetherness was highlighted this weekend by the first religious holidays of the spring season, Easter and Passover.

Contrast is everywhere.

The vulnerability of our interconnection has been revealed by a virus. But it’s also revealed our collective inner drive for connection. We’ve been kept physically apart. Yet in some ways we are together more.

As new life returns to the northern hemisphere, we are being asked to confront mortality and evaluate our systems.

Systemic weaknesses are being revealed that we can’t unsee.  People are showing us who they really are, if we pay attention. And there’s a myriad of smaller revelations, like the values behind our day to day choices.  It’s all on full display.

When things return to normal, will it be a new normal?
Because when this is done, there’s an opportunity we can’t afford to miss.
A normal where there is less waste and more connection.
Less letting things slide and more standing up for what is right.
Less distraction and more discernment.

Everyone loves a new beginning, but many of us need to come back to life. Now that would be a resurrection to celebrate.

Resourcefulness is a Choice

When you allow resourcefulness into your life, you create momentum with more possibilities, higher creativity, and faster growth.

I’ve been meeting clients over Zoom for years, but our new Community, Connection and Coaching calls are a resourceful response to our quickly changing world.

Millions of people are discovering new technology, driven by resourcefulness, but it doesn’t stop there.

Resourcefulness extends to self care.
To creativity.
To your business.
To how you stay grounded.

…To how you maintain strong relationships during a global pandemic.

Are you giving yourself permission to be resourceful?

When We Get Through This

The Question: What do you want to be able to say about yourself when we get through this crisis?

Twelve minds and hearts came together on Zoom yesterday as leaders and as human beings.  These are our words:

“I rethought how I live and what I believe.”

“I came out of this a better business owner.”

“I survived and my family is healthy.”

“I made a shift and adapted to the new way of doing business.”

“I helped people deal with the shift.”

“I was resilient and positive and resourceful through it all.”

“I was resourceful and used my time well.”

“I maintained my belief in human kindness and compassion.”

“I survived this safely and happily, and have new directions in my career.”

“I am a better problem solver and helper because of it.”

“I have led with integrity and authenticity.”

“I got over my fears, let myself be a leader, and served others.”

 

We don’t know what it’s going to look like, but we will get through this.  That’s what leaders do.

Routine in a Time of Upheaval

With our collective routines and systems in upheaval, personal routines and rituals become even more important.

The basics matter, and everything counts. Here’s a few simple routines we can all receive benefit from.

  • Wake up and go to bed at the same time each day.
  • Carve out time in the morning to do something that makes you feel good.
  • Maintain or increase our physical activity to slow down our mental activity.
  • Schedule quiet time for yourself, especially if you have more people in your house than you’re used to right now.
  • Try something new.
  • Ritualize something you do routinely by becoming more present to it, like a quiet cup of tea.

Our body and mind crave the comfort we can give ourselves.  A consistent routine will help minimize distress and personal disruption. With so much out of our control, we have an opportunity to remember our true power comes from within.

Be a Leader

All of us who serve others can support our community no matter how big or small it is.

Don’t wait until you have a large following.

Be that person. A leader.  Who steps up in uncertain times.

If you help one person, you have done the world a service.
